Star Trek: Prodigy (season 1)

{5/5} “Since we found this planet first, do we get to name it? Can we call it Larry?” — Rok-Tahk

Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, aired in 2021

Dal and several acquaintances manage to escape from a prison planet when they discover a hidden ship, which turns out to be the Federation Starship Protostar. Once they say “help” a friendly hologram shows up to reveal that they’re in the Delta quadrant and they’re a long way from the Federation. The hologram is the image of Captain Kathryn Janeway.

I previously thought this season was over a few months ago, but they came back with a 2nd set of 10 episodes.

It might be aimed at kids, but it is nevertheless delightful. The story starts off simply but grows in complexity.

The animation is superb, and the thrilling theme is by Michael Giacchino.

Episode 6 contains an astonishing guest cast.* If you’re a Star Trek fan and you’re not going to watch this series, you might want to watch this episode anyway. Some guest cast members were included after their deaths by using lines of dialogue from previous series.

It’s about learning how to work together as a team.

Kate Mulgrew gloriously reprises her role as Captain Janeway, and Robert Beltran reprises his role as Chakotay in a few episodes.

Stars the voices of Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, and John Noble.

The show was created by Kevin and Dan Hageman (writers on The Lego Movie).

Spoiler alert

*Leonard Nimoy as Spock, James Doohan as Scotty, Nichelle Nichols as Uhura, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, and Rene Auberjonois as Odo.
