Burt, a doctor who specializes in helping veterans, performs an autopsy as a favour to his friend Harold. The dead man, a senator who commanded their regiment in the war, was poisoned. The man’s daughter is killed right in front of them, and Burt and Harold are framed for her murder. Burt and Harold originally met in the War to End All Wars, where an injury forced Burt to get a glass eye in Amsterdam.
This movie is loosely based on a true story.
It has a terrific sense of humour throughout. The characters run into a lot of ridiculous people on their journey. Despite that, a fair amount of tension is built up for the General’s speech.
It’s brilliant, and has messages about democracy and equality that are always relevant.
Chris Rock, Taylor Swift, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Zoe Saldana all show up on screen.
Stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, and Robert De Niro. Directed by David O. Russell (American Hustle). The mysterious music is by Daniel Pemberton.
