Poker Face (season 1)

{5/5} “”I think I’m going to hit the road. You going to be all right in the kitchen without me?’ ‘It’ll probably be easier.'”

Poker Face season 1, aired in 2023

Charlie can tell when people are lying — all the time. She used to win at poker but the boss at one casino learned of her skill, stopped her from playing, and hired her as a cocktail waitress. The new boss, the old boss’s son, hires her to take down a high roller — this time she will be rich. Meanwhile, her closest friend has been killed, ostensibly by her husband — but she knows something is off.

She ends up investigating a murder in each episode. There are plenty of moments of levity.

The best moment is when she wakes up on a picnic table and there’s a buzzard on it.

The way that they show the same scene later when you have more information about what led to it is brilliant.

There are lots of amazing guest stars including Adrien Brody, John Ratzenberger, Chloƫ Sevigny, Judith Light, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Ron Perlman shows up for the big finale.

Stars Natasha Lyonne, Benjamin Bratt, and Simon Helberg.

Created by Rian Johnson (Glass Onion).
