Batman Returns

{3.5/5} “What I’d like to do first is put these little glove things on you. Research tells us that voters like fingers.”

Batman Returns, released in 1992

Oswald Cobblepot was so ugly as a baby that his parents threw him over a bridge. He survived, and was raised by penguins. Decades later Max Shreck wants to build a new power planet in Gotham City but the mayor is skeptical. Shreck decides to put forward a new candidate for mayor, one who will do his bidding — Oswald Cobblepot. Shreck pushes Selina Kyle to her apparent death, but she survives to become Catwoman.

The first time I saw this movie I was turned off by how disgusting the Penguin is — I still agree with myself. There are some fine moments, but it doesn’t quite add up to a great movie.

Batman is a bit more ruthless in this one.

As in the first movie, the bad guy(s) have lots of screen time to shine.

Paul Reubens has a cameo as Oswald’s father.

Stars Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Michael Gough, and Vincent Schiavelli. Directed by Tim Burton (Batman). Danny Elfman adds themes for the new characters to his iconic music.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve seen it.
