The Village

{5/5} “There are secrets in every corner of this village.”

The Village, released in 2004

A small community that lives simply always has someone in the watchtower. There are dangerous creatures in the woods — they call them Those We Don’t Speak Of. If anything red is found growing in the ground they quickly bury it, as it attracts the creatures. The elders have chosen this life, but some of the young people are restless — Lucius in particular wants to go to the outside world to get medicine.

This movie maintains a terrific suspenseful tone.

It has a twist, which is glorious.

It’s one of Shyamalan’s masterpieces.

Bryce Dallas Howard might not be blind, but she will convince you her character is.

Stars Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Adrien Brody, and Judy Greer. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (Knock at the Cabin). The ominous music is by James Newton Howard.

This is the 3rd time I’ve seen it.
