Secret Invasion
{4.5/5} “‘I haven’t even gone on my mid-life crisis shopping spree yet. What did you get for yours?’ ‘The Avengers.'” — Talos & Fury
Secret Invasion, aired in 2023
When Nick Fury returns to Earth, he is informed that the Skrulls on Earth — who can look just like humans and survive in abandoned nuclear plants — are likely trying to start a war between the US and Russia. The leader of the Skrull rebellion is someone Fury used to know, so he’s not happy about it. Fury hasn’t been the same since the blip, and Maria Hill is worried that he’s not ready for this operation.
This miniseries has 6 episodes.
I like how Fury uses his well-known idiosyncratic nature to plant a bug. If you look closely you see that G’iah is reading a book titled Understand the Human Mind.
The villain has an understandable motivation.
Fury has a more or less antagonistic relationship with everyone, which makes conversations a bit odd. This is also a prime example of the phenomenon where the hero knows a bunch of people who could help him but he doesn’t call any of them.
There’s lots to like but there’s also a bit of oddness. The show concludes with some aspects of the situation resolved and some not.
The mysterious music is by Kris Bowers.
Guest stars include Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle.
Stars Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Ben Mendelsohn, and Olivia Coleman.
