The fall of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony

The KW Symphony is the symphony that I went to — I was in the habit of going to several concerts each year. They were a terrific symphony — superbly talented musicians, and conductors who created splendid programs that you wanted to hear.

Just days before this season was supposed to start, the board declared that the season was cancelled. The musicians were informed at the same time as the ticket buyers. It is unconscionable that the board would do this without informing the community and musicians earlier that they were in dire straights.

Later the board declared that they needed $2 million within a week in order to continue. And later they declared bankruptcy.

I hope that those board members will never be allowed to be on another board again.

I also hope that someday there will be a new symphony in KW.

As for the musicians, they have a GoFundMe page which has raised over $400 000.

    Sometimes you can come back from bankruptcy — the KW Symphony is back in business.
