Ties of Power

{4.5/5} “There was, I granted grudgingly, reason for the Clan to be so desperate, to act with such disregard for individuals. It was at the root of every being’s existence: to have a living future. That, as Morgan would say, did not make it right. There had to be other choices, better methods. Some costs were simply too high for an intelligent race to bear.”

Ties of Power by Julie E. Czerneda, published in 1999

When Barac finds Sira, she’s running a gambling establishment, where she’s known as a witch. He has been refused Choice three times, the Council punishing him for his part in the events of a year ago. Sira has defenses against the Clan. Although Jason Morgan is keeping his distance from her at her request, she now calls him and he comes, knowing that there will be trouble.

This is the sequel to A Thousand Words for Stranger.

It’s about what happens when your brain contains two distinct personalities, and when powerful beings will use any means to get what they want from you.

It’s about the mysterious actions of aliens, and how you might act if a bit of rage was added to your personality.

This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.

I’ve read 13 books by Czerneda.
