To Trade the Stars
{4.5/5} “The Hoveny… had spread itself that far and possibly farther before its interstellar empire collapsed — around the same time Humans were four-footed shrews. Study of the Hoveny Complex was one of the most highly funded fields of research among Trade Pact cultures, given that newer species were determined not to repeat whatever mistakes the Hoveny had made in their empire building.”
To Trade the Stars by Julie E. Czerneda, published in 2002
When a Rugheran visits the Silver Fox, Morgan wants to initiate first contact, while Sira is more cautious. Barac and Rael are living amongst the Drapsk, who want them to reconnect Drapskii to the M’hir. At Huido’s restaurant his chef quits abruptly, and then a Clan child named Ruti shows up — he puts her to work washing dishes.
This is the sequel to Ties of Power, and concludes the Trade Pact trilogy — which is part of the Clan Chronicles.
In addition to a great story, Czerneda always has aliens with interesting characteristics.
The story is brought to a fine conclusion, with room to continue the adventures — which she did.
It’s about trying to figure out what people want who are very different from you.
This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.
I’ve read 13 books by Czerneda.
