Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

{4.5/5} “Ever since I sold out and got famous, we have gotten closer.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, released in 2024

Lydia Deetz hosts a ghost-hunter show, and one day she sees Beetlejuice in her audience for a second. Her stepmother Delia informs her that her dad was eaten by a shark after surviving a plane crash. Lydia’s daughter Astrid is going to school and doesn’t really want to talk to her. They all go to Winter River to the big house on the hill for the funeral. Meanwhile, in the underworld, a woman whose body parts were all separate puts herself together and writes “Beetlejuice is mine!” on the wall.

Three of the stars from the original reprise their roles, plus the director — keys to making this sequel-many-years-later work.

It might not be as iconic as the first one but it’s funny and creepy. There were a couple of parts I thought were silly but on the whole I enjoyed it.

Danny DeVito has an appropriately disturbing cameo.

Stars Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci. Directed by Tim Burton (Beetlejuice).
