Echo
{4/5} “Generations are echoing, reaching out to us, at a time when we need them the most.”
Echo, aired in 2023-24
Maya Lopez has shot Wilson Fisk because he killed her father. She was shot too. Now she’s gone home for the first time in 20 years. Her cousin Biscuits finds her at her grandmother’s house, and she tells him not to tell anyone she’s here. Uncle Henry, who runs the roller skating rink, tells Maya not to bring her war to this town. She sneaks a bomb onto a train car, leading to Fisk’s munitions warehouse blowing up.
This is a miniseries that follows Hawkeye, where the character of Maya was introduced.
It’s about trying to figure out what to do when you’ve lived in two worlds and you’re angry at everyone.
It’s a bit frustrating at times, as Maya requires a lot of luck plus what is essentially a deus ex machina to survive.
I like how the members of Maya’s family all treat her differently, depending on their character. The scenes of her Choktaw ancestors are well done.
Stars Alaqua Cox, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Created by Marion Dayre (story editor on Better Call Saul).
