Exit Strategy

{5/5} “I knew interpreting the emotional subtext in the speech and appearance of real humans was completely different from interpreting it in shows and serials… But the interpretation I wanted to make of Bharadwaj’s vid statement was that Mensah was being held by GrayCris, who had threatened her life if Preservation didn’t make a formal statement of at least implying that they were in amicable negotiations to settle with GrayCris.”

Exit Strategy by Martha Wells, published in 2018

When Murderbot returns to HaveRatton Station it discovers that a security force was waiting to board the ship that it was on. Luckily it still had an environmental suit it could wear in space between the ship and the station. On the station Murderbot discovers that Dr. Mensah has gone to TranRollinHyfa, where GrayCris has its headquarters. It infers that Dr. Mensah has not gone there willingly, so it needs to go help its friend.

This is the 4th Murderbot novella, following Rogue Protocol.

It’s about what happens when your actions unintentionally affect the person you like most in the world. It’s about what you can do what you’re really great at hacking. It’s about offering freedom to beings, even ones who are trying to kill you.

I’ve read 4 books by Wells.
