Radio Free Albemuth
{3.5/5} “You believing it?… All this, my act… So you bought it too. That’s good, that means I must be doing something right.”
Radio Free Albemuth, released in 2010
Nick has been having unusual dreams where he believes a consciousness is speaking to him — it wants him to move to LA, so he does. He even has a name for it, VALIS. But his wife Rachel and his friend Phil, a science fiction writer, are skeptical. When Phil goes to LA for a visit Rachel says things are good but asks him not to bring up VALIS.
This movie isn’t really a successful one overall, but it does have some interesting ideas. The parts about the fascist government are good, while the parts about the aliens are a bit nonsensical.
Although it’s a strange movie, it’s semi-autobiographical — Dick had some strange things happen to him. Based on the novel by Philip K. Dick (Minority Report).
Stars Shea Whigham, Jonathan Scarfe, Katheryn Winnick, and Alanis Morissette. Directed by John Alan Simon (his only movie).
