Star Trek: Lower Decks (season 5)

{5/5} “‘I didn’t know you could juggle.’ ‘Neither did I.’ ‘How do you do it?’ ‘It was simply algorithmic tossing.'” — Mariner & T’Lyn

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, aired in 2024

When the Cerritos winds up in an alternate universe they have to work together with slightly different versions of themselves. Tendi is working for her sister to make up for the warship — she’s looting, but makes sure her crew doesn’t kill anyone. When Jennifer comes on a mission she thinks that she and Mariner are still girlfriends. Mariner and Boimler go to Qo’noS to help their friend Ma’ah regain his position as captain. When the ship needs a new navigational processor, the only starbase in range is Starbase 80.

This is the last season.

It’s a joyful collection of episodes.

I like references where it makes sense that the characters say it — for example, Kirk and Picard are famous for these characters so they know about them. But there are times when a character says something that doesn’t make sense, and those are less welcome.

The 2-part finale has some delightful special guests and brings together a few storylines in a nice way. There’s a bit of silliness, as usual, but it’s a splendid finale.

Guest stars include Brent Spiner, Jolene Blaylock, Andrew Robinson, Alexander Siddig, Garrett Wang, and Alfre Woodard.

I previously reviewed season 4.
