Dickinson (season 1)

{4.5/5} “It’s not a good time for me to get into a relationship. I need to focus on my cat.” — Lavinia

Dickinson season 1, aired in 2019

Emily lives with her family in Amherst. She’s in love with her friend Sue, but of course can’t marry her. Instead, Sue is marrying her brother Austin — and they’re staying nearby. Her sister Lavinia is like their mother, trying to be a good woman with cooking and cleaning. Emily visits Death on a regular basis. She writes poems and gets one published even though it angers her father.

This is an odd show. But it has Hailee Steinfeld, and it is very funny.

It answers the question: What if Emily expressed the thoughts that she was unable to express, as a woman in the 19th century?

All historical characters must be taken with a grain of salt. As long as you can do that, you’ll enjoy it.

It’s about stretching the bounds of what you can do, with some people around you helping and some hindering.

Guest stars include Robert Picardo and Zosia Mamet.

Stars Jane Krakowski, Ella Hunt, and Adrian Enscoe.
