Girl Most Likely

{4.5/5} “I love that sculpture of Abe Lincoln. That is phenomenal… He’s got a little smirk. What’s he thinking?”

Girl Most Likely, released in 2012

Imogene was supposed to become a star playwright but somehow that didn’t happen. She is stunned when her boyfriend breaks up with her, and when she loses her job. When a doctor thinks she tried to kill herself he tracks down her mom, who she hasn’t seen in years. Her mom takes her home, where someone is renting her old room and her mom is with a younger man who says he’s in the CIA.

This movie is funny and has a cast of interesting characters.

It’s about finding out who you can rely on when you need help, and what happens when you meet and re-meet people with different views on what’s important.

Aside from the needing-alcohol-to-have-a-good-time scene, I liked it a lot.

Kristen Wiig is delightful as always.

Stars Annette Bening, Matt Dillon, Darren Criss, Natasha Lyonne, and Bob Balaban. Directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor).
