Star Trek: A Choice of Catastrophes

{4.5/5} “The doctor thought about it for a moment. But would Jim understand? This was a man for whom space was a passion — for McCoy it was an escape. How could Kirk understand that McCoy felt he didn’t belong here and never had?”

Star Trek: A Choice of Catastrophes by Michael Schuster and Steve Mollmann, published in 2011

Kirk and Spock are taking 2 shuttles to a newly discovered planet. It seems that the previous inhabitants abandoned it. When one crewmember calls for help on their communicators, they rush to his location.

Sulu is in command of the Enterprise, and he’s taking Dr. McCoy to deliver urgently needed medical supplies. The ship runs into a spatial distortion and everyone is thrown around. One person falls, but not from the distortion — he’s brought to sickbay and McCoy is stunned to find out he’s dying.

This book is about investigating an alien mystery and a medical mystery, first contact, and thinking about your life’s choices.

It’s about a person who’s been running away feeling like they belong.

This is the 1st book I’ve read by either of these authors, but they had 2 stories in Star Trek: The Next Generation — The Sky’s the Limit.
