Planet Earth III

{5/5} “The natural world is not just one vast medicine chest. It’s far more than that. It is our life support system, the fabric that holds our world together.”

Planet Earth III, aired in 2023

Filming over 5 years in in 43 countries, the team found these amazing things:

  • ostriches in the Namib desert abandon the eggs that haven’t hatched in order to lead their chicks to safety
  • a leopard who hides in a tree waiting for prey to come to it and then jumps
  • seals work together to drive away a great white shark
  • right whales travel 5000 miles to a sheltered bay to give birth
  • archerfish in Indonesia can spit water and knock bugs out of trees
  • pearl octopus lay their eggs in a warm spot and sit on them for 2 years — and then when the eggs hatch they die

David Attenborough describes how animal habitats are disappearing and changing because of humans. He also shows heroes who are rescuing wildlife.

I previously reviewed Planet Earth II.
