DaCapo Chamber Choir’s “Enchant”

I attended the DaCapo Chamber Choir’s concert “Enchant.”

Here’s the program:

  • The Passing of the Year – Jonathan Dove*
  • Noche de Lluvia – Sid Robinovitch*
  • Moonset – Jeff Enns
  • O Bide in that Country (premiere) – Kento Stratford
  • Sonata no. 14 “Moonlight Sonata” first movement – Ludwig van Beethoven*
  • Grandmother Moon – Eleanor Daley
  • Constellation – Frank Ticheli

*Catherine Robertson joined the choir for two pieces plus one of her own.

The Robinovitch had a tango feeling to it, unusual for the choir but delightful. It’s always nice to hear Beethoven, and it’s even more unusual for a DaCapo concert – in fact this might be the first time.

Len Enns, director of the choir, chooses pieces with sublime harmonies and the choir is masterful at bringing them to life. He writes in the program: “While seemingly impossible challenges and injustices threaten to overwhelm us, perhaps, for a moment, we can leave the noise of the daily news and remember the enchanted world with which we have been gifted.”
