Star Trek: The Return of the Worthy
{4.5/5} “‘Bones, can you revive them?’ ‘Scotty and I will have to check the systems over and we should be careful. Last time we did this was over a decade ago, and they took over the ship in repayment.'”
Star Trek: The Return of the Worthy by Peter David & Bill Mumy, published in 3 issues from Oct. 1990 to Jan. 1991
When Captain James T. Kirk beams down to check out some energy readings he finds some beings who have been in stasis for 300 years. When they are revived, they reveal they are the Worthy — legends to the Starfleet officers. They were flung across the galaxy by Apollo. The Worthy want to go home, and it seems their planet needs them — it’s on the brink of war.
It’s about people who did great things in the past, and who each have a different idea about what’s important now.
R.J. Blaise makes herself useful in this one — which is important if she’s going to continue to be on the ship.
Captain Styles is redeemed — which is nice, since he is a captain so must have some good qualities.
The artwork by Gordon Purcell and Arne Starr is superb.
I’ve read 28 novels, 3 graphic novels, and a bunch of comic books by David. I previously reviewed Star Trek: So Near the Touch.
