Star Trek: Gods’ Gauntlet

{4/5} “‘I’m certain we’ll find the Federation filled with kindred spirits.’ ‘And some not so kindred, Ambassador Goffen. You see, we value diversity as much as we do the refinements of higher civilization'” — Goffen & Kirk

Star Trek: Gods’ Gauntlet by Howard Weinstein, published in 2 issues from Jun. 1991 to Jul. 1991

The Enterprise is en route to Lerik with their ambassador, Goffen. When they arrive they find that the planet is at war, and Goffen has been lying to them. He’s not really an ambassador — he just wanted the Federation to help his world. Since Kirk has to beam Goffen down anyway, he decides to go with him to see the prime minister.

It’s about people who think their god is punishing them, and people who think there is a scientific explanation.

The characters seem like themselves. As for the story there’s nothing really wrong with it — it just doesn’t distinguish itself from other similar stories.

I’ve read 5 novels and a bunch of comic books by Weinstein. I previously reviewed Star Trek: Partners?
