Star Trek: The Peacekeeper

{4.5/5} “I’m not sure you understand, captain. Shopay and the others are fanatics — they’re intent on undoing everything the Aegis has every done. Including that incident when you let me detonate the missile and avert a nuclear holocaust on Earth.”

Star Trek: The Peacekeeper by Howard Weinstein, published in 2 issues from Jun. 1993 to Jul. 1993

Starfleet and the Thevosians have been working in secret on a protomatter weapon — supposedly the protomatter is synthesized and stabilized. Starfleet doesn’t want it to fall into the wrong hands, like the Klingons. Captain Kirk is skeptical about the whole thing, and he’s been chosen to observe a field test. It worked under controlled conditions — but out in space with a moving target, that’s a different story.

This story features Gary Seven. Chekov and Scotty have nice roles and work together.

It’s about people who want your help but don’t want to tell you everything. It’s about hoping you’re trusting the right people when they’re operating above your pay grade.

The 2nd issue was #50 in the series and double-sized.

The great artwork is by Rod Whigham and Romeo Tanghal.

This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.

I’ve read 5 novels and a bunch of comic books by Weinstein. I previously reviewed Star Trek: The Tabukan Syndrome.
