Star Trek: The Tabukan Syndrome
{4.5/5} “We Maroans live by a simple premise, Jaricus — it’s a big galaxy, and even the Federation and Starfleet can’t know all and see all.”
Star Trek: The Tabukan Syndrome by Howard Weinstein, published in 6 issues from Sep. 1992 to Nov. 1992
Tabuk 3 and Tabuk 4 were at war for 200 years but now they’re at peace and they’ve both joined the Federation. They were supposed to jointly destroy their old dangerous weapons but someone else slipped in and grabbed them. They’re also near the Romulan Neutral Zone. The Enterprise under Captain Kirk and the Excelsior under Captain Sulu are sent to investigate. The Enterprise takes a detour to answer a distress call, leaving Sulu heading into a trap.
Rand has a very nice role, with Sulu aboard the Excelsior — they even fence together.
It’s about people who want revenge on those who have hurt them, and people who want to treat anyone who’s wounded regardless of who they are.
The artwork is by Rod Whigham, Arne Starr, and Gordon Purcell — it’s great.
This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.
I’ve read 5 novels and a bunch of comic books by Weinstein. I previously reviewed Star Trek: Veritas.
