Star Trek: TNG — Diplomatic Implausibility
{4.5/5} “But you — you make us all look like we lead dull lives. Your ship’s destroyed by the Jem’Hadar, you’re captured by the Breen, tortured by the Cardassians, rescued by Cardassia’s biggest folk hero, and then for good measure you kill the Klingon chancellor and appoint his replacement, help win the worst war of the last several decades, and get a plum diplomatic assignment. Nod bad for six months’ work.”
Star Trek: The Next Generation — Diplomatic Implausibility by Keith R. A. DeCandido, published in 2001
Worf is the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire. He’s asked to go to taD, a world the Klingons took over 200 years ago. Four years ago, when the Klingons were busy fighting the Dominion, the original inhabitants of the world retook it. Eventually the Klingons moved in again. The rebellion continues — they recently attacked the governor’s satellite. Of course, the rebels were destroyed by a Klingon war ship.
The story features Captain Klag and Commander Riker, who have a delightful conversation. Others who show up include Chancellor Martok, Rodek who used to be Kurn, Captain Picard, and Dr. Crusher.
I like how the story shows that Worf has kept in touch with Jeremy Aster.
It’s about finding a solution where probably not everyone is going to be happy. The solution is clever.
I’ve read 6 novels plus 1 graphic novel by Keith R. A. DeCandido. I previously reviewed Star Trek: Deep Space Nine — Gateways: Demons of Air and Darkness.
