People Like Us
{4.5/5} “I hope you never have to know what it’s like to love someone and then find out you’re not enough.”
Sam works for a company that facilitates barters between companies who have leftover stock. He’s a great salesman but he made a mistake on one of his deals and now he has to bribe someone at the Federal Trade Commission or else he’ll lose his job. At the same time his father has died. He didn’t have a very good relationship with his father but he goes home for the funeral. While there he discovers a shocking family secret.*
People Like Us was released in 2012.
It’s about the unexpected things that happen when you’re a member of a family. It’s about trying to understand why people do the things they do.
I liked it a lot — it’s a different story, one worth telling.
Chris Pine is following in the footsteps of Paul Giamatti in his ability to portray a character who has some large flaws but we like him anyway.
Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness) plays Sam. Elizabeth Banks (Definitely, Maybe) plays Frankie and Michael Hall D’Addario (Sinister) plays Josh. Michelle Pfeiffer (Dark Shadows) plays Sam’s mom and Olivia Wilde (In Time) plays Sam’s girlfriend.
Jon Favreau (Iron Man 3), Mark Duplass (Your Sister’s Sister), and Philip Baker Hall (Bruce Almighty) have smaller roles.
The movie was directed by Alex Kurtzman (writer of Star Trek).
Spoiler alert
*He has a sister and a nephew he never knew about.
