The Huntsman: Winter’s War

{3.5/5} “How lucky you are.”

The Huntsman: Winter’s War, released in 2016

Freya leaves her sister Ravenna and creates her own kingdom. With her newfound magic she becomes the Ice Queen. She kidnaps children from across the land and turns them into soldiers — very good ones. Because of the devastating loss of her baby at the hands of her lover, she forbids love amongst her soldiers. Of course, some disobey.

Unusually, this is both a prequel and a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.

Snow White and the Huntsman was a bit odd, and this movie is even odder. I liked some parts but other parts didn’t work for me.

It’s visually appealing, and the actors give it their all, but the story isn’t quite up to par.

If you were hoping to see lots of Charlize Theron, you might be a bit disappointed — she’s not a big part of the movie.

The dwarves are hilarious.

Stars Emily Blunt, Chris Hemsworth, and Jessica Chastain. Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (visual effects supervisor on Snow White and the Huntsman). The music by James Newton Howard is intermittently interesting.
