Gotham (season 5)

{5/5} “Hello, Oswald. We have a great deal to talk about, but first… did you name your dog after me?”

Gotham season 5, aired in 2019

Gotham has been cut off from the outside world — no one gets in or out. Jim Gordon stayed to take care of the people who weren’t able to evacuate. Meanwhile, outside the 10 blocks the GCPD control the Penguin, the Scarecrow, Barbara and Tabitha, and other villains control parts of the rest of the city. Meanwhile, Selena has been shot and the doctor says she’ll never walk again.

This is the last season. They went a bit overboard with the darkness this season. Given that’s the storyline they chose, of course, they did a fantastic job with it.

I only had one small quibble with the finale — I didn’t get why Gordon changed his mind about retiring. It ends the way it has to end — but the way it got there was glorious. This is how you do a prequel.

Stars Chris Chalk, Benedict Samuel, and Cameron Monaghan.

I previously reviewed season 4.
