Planet Earth II

{5/5} “The limited food and space on small islands can often lead to intense competition. But some islands are immense, more like miniature continents, and these provide opportunities for life to experiment and evolve.”

Planet Earth II, aired in 2016

This is really season 2 of Planet Earth.

The 6 episodes focus on: islands, mountains, jungles, deserts, grasslands, and cities. You see pygmy three-toed sloths, Komodo dragons, lemurs, marine iguanas, seabirds, red crabs, and penguins. You see bald eagles, grizzly bears, bobcats, flamingos, and snow leopards. You see spider monkeys, swordbill hummingbirds, jaguars, transparent frogs, and river dolphins. There’s a “Diaries” section at the end of every episode that shows you what things were like behind the scenes.

If you’re creeped out by snakes, there’s one scene in the 1st episode where you’ll want to look away for a couple of minutes.

Other than that, the footage is stunning and the information is fascinating. The flamingos are hilarious.

You will be astonished at least once or twice.

David Attenborough narrates. The epic theme was composed by Hans Zimmer. The other music by Jacob Shea and Jasha Klebe is at times playful, dangerous, and majestic.

A 3rd season has been announced.
