VOY Dark Matters: Shadow of Heaven
{4.5/5} “It had been strange to be without a weapon on this planet and downright unsettling to be without a combadge. A dozen times a day he’d find himself tapping his chest, trying futilely to communicate with someone. It had gotten so that the children teased him, lifting their right hands and touching their left breasts when they saw him.”
Star Trek: Voyager — Dark Matters: Shadow of Heaven by Christie Golden, published in 2000
Commander Tuvok has mind melded with Telek R’Mor and learned that the mutated dark matter poses a dire threat to the universe. Now he must convince the Kwaisi to let Captain Janeway out of jail. Meanwhile, Chakotay and Tom have been separated — Chakotay is with the technological Alilann, and Tom is with the agrarian Culilann. Meanwhile Jekri Kaleh, former head of the Tal Shiar on Romulus, is in jail — but planning an escape.
This is the sequel to Ghost Dance, and the conclusion to the trilogy.
Harry has a nice romance. A former member of the Voyager crew shows up, sort of — Kes.
This book wraps up the trilogy delightfully. This last part of the story particularly has a bit of a TOS feel to it where the fate of the universe is at stake.
One more quotation: “I do not know what fate awaits me. I may still die the death of a traitor. I may live to a ripe old age, and entertain you in my home one day when our two governments are allies. After what I have witnessed these last few weeks, I have come to realize that, truly, anything is possible.”
I’ve read 10 books by Golden. I will read at least 2 more.
