Heaven’s River
{4.5/5} “Don’t ask me, Bob. Replicant drift seems to be accelerating. I think we’re approaching fifteen to twenty generations, and it’s no longer just a matter of enhanced or suppressed attributes of Original Bob. The differences are accumulating, and some clones are going in completely new directions.”
Heaven’s River by Dennis E. Taylor, published in 2020
There are thousands of Bobs in the galaxy and they’re all descended from the original replicant, a computer who was replicated from a human who lived in the 21st century. One of the Bobs, Bender, took off and was never heard from again. Now Bob is mounting a mission to find him. Bob hypothesizes that Bender found something interesting and deviated from his plan — then he finds a system with a megastructure.
This is the sequel to All These Worlds. It’s got the same great Bob storyline and Bob humour.
“Topopolis” is my new favourite word.
It’s about aliens who are in a megastructure but it’s sealed and they don’t have a lot of technology. It’s about dealing with beings who have different ideas about how the galaxy should be run.
I’ve read 4 books by Taylor.
