Star Trek: Discovery (season 4)

{5/5} “We are both justified in our anger. Allowing it to be our focus, however, only prevents us from achieving those things which serve the greater good. It is a struggle, yes, but a worthy one.”  — Saru

Star Trek: Discovery season 4, aired in 2021-22

Discovery is bringing dilithium to planets that haven’t had any in a while. Saru is trying to convince his people to join the larger universe. Meanwhile, Starfleet Academy is reopened for the first time since the Burn. When they answer a distress call, the Federation President decides to come along — and they find a space station spinning out of control. They eventually discover a destructive anomaly that’s not like anything anyone has seen before.

It’s about dealing with overwhelming grief, realizing you can do something different than what your mom didn’t want you to do, and first contact with a species very different from any we’ve met before.

The friendship between Saru and T’Rina is delightful.

There are clunky moments here and there. One thing they do really well is show how important your mental health is.

The reworking of the main theme that plays over the end credits is beautiful.

Oded Fehr plays Admiral Vance, Sonja Sohn plays Gabrielle Burnham, Chelah Horsdal plays Federation President Rillak, and Tara Rosling plays Ni’Var President T’Rina.

Stars Blu del Barrio, Emily Coutts, and Oyin Oladejo.

I previously reviewed season 3.

One Response to “Star Trek: Discovery (season 4)”

  1. Dave Switzer Says:

The ratings for individual episodes from this season on IMDb are absurdly low. Some viewers think that the characters are too emotional. That’s nonsense — people have emotions, including Starfleet officers.
