Turning Red

{4.5/5} “You’re so fluffy!”

Turning Red, released in 2022

Meilin is 13 — she sometimes feels like doing her own thing, and sometimes feels like doing what her mom wants her to do. She does well in school, and has some good friends she hangs out with. She also helps her mom give tours of the temple they operate. Her mom has an unfortunate tendency to embarrass her. Then something happens and now whenever she gets too excited she turns into a giant red panda.

Set in Toronto in the early 2000s, this is a superbly animated Pixar movie.

Meilin is delightful from the moment you meet her. Her friends are really good friends, and also hilarious.

If you’re ready to laugh, this is the movie for you today.

Stars the voices of Rosalie Chiang and Sandra Oh. Directed by Domee Shi (storyboard artist on Toy Story 4). The playful music is by Ludwig Göransson.
