True Grit

{5/5} “The ground’s too hard. If they wanted a decent burial they should have got themselves killed in summer.”

True Grit, released in 2010

Mattie Ross intends on finding her father’s killer and bringing him back to be hanged. She’s only fourteen, so she will need some help. She hires marshal Rooster Cogburn, who she believes has true grit. A man named LaBoeuf, a Texas ranger, has been on the killer’s trail already and he joins their hunt temporarily — but Cogburn and LaBoeuf have an argument and they separate.

There are two things this western has that others do not. One is the character of Mattie Ross, as played by Hailee Steinfeld. The other is the astounding dialogue by the Coen brothers.

The 3 main characters all show they have true grit.

Domhnall Gleeson has a small part.

Directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen (Hail, Caesar!). The majestic music is by Carter Burwell.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it. My earlier review is here.
