Futurama: Bender’s Game

{3.5/5} “I was working in Mom’s laboratories for the third time, after twice before realizing how evil she was and vowing never to work for her again.”

Futurama: Bender’s Game, released in 2009

There’s a dark matter shortage, so fuel prices are up. When a couple of guys insult the Planet Express ship, Leela vows to win against them in a demolition derby. Bender has been playing Dungeons & Dragons with the kids. He goes a bit crazy, thinking that he’s fighting dragons in real life. Professor Farnsworth reveals that he has an anti-crystal that would make all Mom’s dark matter worthless.

This movie is not as funny as the previous one. Leela gets hurt over and over, probably my least favourite part.

There are some fun references, but it’s also sillier than other episodes or movies.

I’m not sure the concept of parodying The Lord of the Rings was the best one. It was a big series at the time, but now it feels out of place in this science fiction show.

Stars the voices of David Herman, Kath Soucie, Frank Welker, and Rich Little. Directed by Dwayne Carey-Hill (Futurama: Bender’s Big Score). The music is by Christopher Tyng.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it.

The previous movie in the series is Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs.
