The Lego Movie
{5/5} “I only work in black. And sometimes very, very dark grey.” — Batman
Emmet is a regular guy — he works in construction, and always follows instructions. When he stumbles upon someone who isn’t where she should be, he gets caught up in something he couldn’t imagine. After Emmet falls down a hole he gets something called the Piece of Resistance stuck on his back, and a woman named Wyldstyle tells him that he is the Special. He must stop President Business from destroying the world with the Kragle. Unfortunately he has no idea how to do that.
The Lego Movie, released in 2014
If you watched the trailer and thought this movie was for kids, you weren’t paying attention. This movie is brilliant — not only does it have a great story, it’s one of the funniest movies ever made.
Everything in the movie looks as if it’s made of Lego — it’s done with a combination of stop motion and CGI.
It’s about working together and stepping outside your comfort zone.
The fun music is by Mark Mothersbaugh (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2). You will definitely emerge singing the song “Everything is Awesome.”
Chris Pratt (the TV show Parks and Recreation) voices Emmet and Elizabeth Banks (The Next Three Days) voices Wyldstyle. Will Arnett (Horton Hears a Who!) voices Batman and Liam Neeson (Love Actually) voices Good Cop/Bad Cop. Morgan Freeman (Now You See Me) voices Vitruvius and Will Ferrell (Megamind) voices President Business. There are also some fun cameos.*
The movie was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (they also co-directed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs).
